Festival of Lights & Trees’ Volunteers Needed

The holidays are fast approaching and we are looking for energetic, friendly volunteers for this year’s 11th Annual Festival of Trees & Lights. This three-day festival has become a community staple and is the perfect way to start spreading holiday cheer. I was wondering if you would and members of the Soroptimist Organization may be interested in helping us with this years event. I would love to schedule a time to come in to discuss the event and job details at a meeting or gathering of interested parties. Please let me know if this is something we can set up for mid November.

The Festival of Trees & Lights is not only a fun, family-friendly weekend, it is also a fundraising event for us here at The Barton Foundation. This year all proceeds raised during the Gala will benefit our Family Birthing Center by funding equipment, training, and development so that we can continue to provide exceptional care close to home for our mothers and babies. Funds raised at the festival will support Barton’s Community Health Endowment.

Attached you will find descriptions of the different volunteer roles we are looking to fill. Click here to sign up for specific roles and shifts. I would be happy to come in and explain/discuss the event with members just let me know when!

We need all the help we can get so if a specific scheduled “shift” does not work simply email us directly and let us know when they’re available to help.

Kindly,
Jillian Nielsen

Announcement

Harrahs Parking:

As a courtesy Harrahs valet staff has been providing complimentary valet parking – even though our contract is for complimentary self-parking only.

Valet has advised me that they can no longer do this on a discretionary basis. In the future we will be provided with 10 complimentary valet passes per month. These passes will be provided at the first meeting of each month along with that day’s complimentary stickers. If you need a valet pass, please see President Jenn. All other guests will either need to pay for valet parking or use the complimentary self-parking option.

President’s message

Hi Ladies,

I would just like to once again applaud the Wine Tasting Committee and ALL of our members who helped with the event.  I am so proud of us and proud to be a member of our tribe!  The vibe was so positive and I did not hear a single negative comment. The food and wine provided were amazing. I would like to encourage all of us to give patronage to the vendors that support our event year after year!  Thank them for their contribution to the success of our event.

A huge congratulations and welcome to Louisa Boone, as our new President Elect. I know she is going to do a amazing job! I am super thankful for her willingness to step up to the plate and she is ready to hit the ground running.

As the holiday’s approach, we now look forward to the Holiday Auction. This is such a great event, this year it is being held at Harvey’s in the space next to the pool. So we will have LOTS of space, and I hope that everyone considers bringing at least one guest.  I know that I am going to use the opportunity to invite potential new members.  It will give them a chance to mingle and meet our members!

There are lots of opportunities coming up to participate in SISLT projects and community projects, I hope that everyone takes these opportunities to get involved.  If we want to give money, we need to make money! If we want to volunteer in the community, we need to sign up!  Below is a short list of things going on and who to contact to get involved.

Attendance Reminder

Just a reminder to all that your RSVP to the weekly attendance notice is important.

  • We need to give Harrah’s or Harveys numbers by 12:30 on the Monday before a meeting.  An accurate count keeps our expenses way down and helps the venue plan the amount of food needed.
  • Remember that if you register properly you will receive both an immediate acknowledgement at the site AND an email thanking you for registering.
  • If you forget or think something is wrong, you can email or call me to get on the list. We always try to accommodate you.
  • Register by going to our calendar and select the upcoming lunch meeting. If registration is closed, please email or contact Linda Mitchell directly.
