A Fighting Chance Celebration Lunch today. This is the signature program for our chapter Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe, 20th year of training children how to get away right away from abductors (began after Jaycee Lee Dugard was taken here in Tahoe)
First Banner was from the 10 year march for Jaycee Lee before she was released from her captors. Second banner from march and celebration after Jaycee Lee was back home.
Donated car used for training kids how to escape from anywhere in a car (trunk, back seat, front seat, if being pulled into the car).

On May 17, 2017 at Harvey’s Lake Tahoe Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe awarded the following students for their achievements with the annual Rewards for Excellence Scholarship Program.

Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe
Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe members listened to nationally known speaker and consultant, John Vanek, Author of the Essential Abolitionist on April 26 at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe.
John Vanek is a National consultant and speaker focusing on human trafficking and the collaborative response to modern slavery.
John is a retired lieutenant from the San Jose Police Department, where he managed the San Jose Police Human Trafficking Task Force, and holds an M.A. in Leadership from Saint Mary’s College of California
He has worked with the United States Department of Justice, the Office of the United States Attorneys, California’s Office of the Attorney General, California POST, the California District Attorneys Association, the National Law Enforcement Training Network, the Not For Sale Campaign, the Freedom Network Training Institute, and most recently he was asked to serve on the National Advisory Committee on the Sex Trafficking of Children and Youth.
In three weeks’ time, Representatives from the Police Dept., District Attorney’s Office and Live Violence Free will be flying to Cleveland to take part in a 3 day special training entitled Building Collaborative Responses to Trafficked Victims. It is being presented by the US Dept of Justice, Office of Violence Against Women and Futures Without Violence…and John is one of the facilitators. The goal for the South Lake Tahoe Team is to develop and implement a collaborative, multidisciplinary response to addressing Trafficking in our community.
